CENSORSHIP ON TV CHANNELS

Television has a very important place in our life. We watch television everyday and sometimes we see that some channels are closed by RTÜK for some days. It is my contention that censorship on tv channels by RTÜK should be banned.

It might be contended that closing a tv channel can be acceptable for some reasons. It is thought that children can learn something that is ethically wrong from tv however, everybody knows that they can learn everything from their friends and associates. Moreover, they can learn wrong things from their surroundings. So it is not a good way of preventing children to learn something that they shouldn’t.

One of the most important contentions in favour of censorship is that artists’ creativity is being restricted by closure of channels by RTÜK. The directors can’t make the movies that they imagined before so our cinematograph is not at the place where it deserves. Moreover, musiciansand other artists are dealing with the same problems too. So creativity in art is being restricted by RTÜK.

A whole day closure of a channel can have very harmful effects on economy. Advertisement business has o lot of loss and it directly affects the sales of goods. There is a big decrease in incomes of tv channels too. So it goes on like a chain and all economy takes a very big damage.

The most important reason is that our freedom is being restricted by RTÜK. If a channel is closed, our right to watch that channel is lost. In addition to that freedom of thought is being restricted. People can’t say what they think and we can’t learn their real opinions. So sharing ideasand reaching the true thing becomes impossible.

In conclusion, censorship on tv channels by RTÜK should be banned because creativity is being restricted so our art can not develop. Very large amounts of money is being losed by closures of channels. and the most important reason is that our freedom is being restricted. So the ethically right thing may not always be the best.
